Chinese Gasoline and Diesel Exports Slump

China exported 840,000 tonnes of gasoline in May according to General Administration of Customs data released on Saturday, down from 1.55 million tonnes in May 2021 and 980,000 tonnes in April.

  • Diesel exports slumped to 120,000 tonnes, down from 1.68 million tonnes in May 2021 and from 530,000 tonnes the previous month.
  • Jet fuel exports rose to 810,000 tonnes in May, up from 570,000 tonnes a year earlier but down from 960,000 tonnes in April.
  • Beijing has slashed export quotas to curb excessive domestic refining production but has eased them somewhat as domestic stockpiles surge against the backdrop of weak domestic demand.
