CHP to Hold Presser on Allegations of Vote Rigging

  • The main opposition CHP party, led by Kemal Kilicdaroglu, will hold a press conference at 0830BST/1030 local time in Ankara on allegations of vote rigging.
  • According to a decision published in the official gazette, the central bank has imposed additional FX conversion targets for lenders, telling them to shift more hard currency into FX-protected TRY retail accounts. Lenders are now required to buy low-yielding government bonds if they fail to achieve an additional 10% conversion target each month between May 26-July 28.
  • Turkey’s short-term external debt stock rose by 8.7% from end-2022, according to data published by the central bank. The short-term external debt stock of banks stands at $66bln, up 8.2% from end-2022.
