Clawing Back Early Losses

GILT SUMMARY

Gilts sold off sharply early into the session and the curve bear steepened before retracing much of the move from mid-morning onwards. Cash bonds will trade below yesterday's close and the curve is 2-3bp steeper on the day.

  • Last yields: 2-year 0.0547%, 5-year 0.354%, 10-year 0.7944%, 30-year 1.3115%.
  • The Jun 21 gilt future trades at 128.13, 5 ticks off the day's high.
  • The short sterling futures strip has steepened with greens/blues 2-3 ticks lower.
  • The DMO earlier sold GBP900mn of the 0.125% Aug-31 linker. A further GBP213.65mn was taken up through the PAOF.
  • The BoE purchased GBP1.48bn of medium-dated gilts with offer-to-cover of 1.99x.
  • Focus now shifts to the FOMC later today.
