CNB Holds Non-MonPol Meeting Ahead Of Next Week's Rate Review

  • The CNB's Bank Board holds is weekly non-monetary policy meeting today. The next review of interest rates is due on March 29, after Deputy Governor Eva Zamrazilova pushed back against market rate-cut bets yesterday. The central bank will also publish changes to its balance sheet in the 10 days through March 20 later today.
  • Labour and Social Affairs Minister Marian Jurecka backpedalled on his earlier comments and said that he doesn't want to push for raising the retirement age to 68 years. Meanwhiile, he proposed to expand the team of advisers dealing with pension reforms by two representatives of opposition parties ANO and SPD.
  • Jurecka is facing some political headwinds after Mlada Fronta Dnes reported that he tried to pressure Labour Office head Viktor Najmon to step down by offering him an extraordinary reward if he agrees and threatening to give him a negative service evaluation if he refuses. Najmon was eventually dismissed in February but has appealed the decision.
