CNB's Michl Flags Debate On Pace Of Rate Cuts

  • CNB Governor Ales Michl said that the Bank Board will likely discuss slowing the pace of monetary easing at the meeting later this month. The official noted that the Board will probably deliver another 50bp cut or reduce the magnitude of the move to 25bp. Michl said that "both options are open, and in both cases, we will still be in the restrictive territory" and "then we will be very cautious about further rate cuts."
  • The Chamber of Deputies resumes a debate on postal voting from abroad. Main opposition parties ANO and SPD have been critical of the government's bill, with experts suggesting that the legislation would mostly benefit parties from the ruling coalition.
  • Seznam Zpravy reports that there is an ongoing debate within STAN whether Danuse Nerudova or Jozef Sikela should be Czechia's nominee to the European Commission. Nerudova pushed back against criticism from some quarters within STAN, arguing that she did much of the heavy lifting in boosting the party's result in the recent European election, which was rather underwhelming nonetheless.
