CNB To Announce Macroprudential Policy Decision, Parliament Debates 2024 Budget

  • The Czech National Bank (CNB) holds its quarterly meeting on financial stability today, with Bank Board's Karina Kubelkova and Financial Stability Department Executive Director set to announce the outcomes during a press conference at 14:45GMT/15:45CET. At the previous financial stability meeting in September, the Bank Board decided to lower the countercyclical capital buffer rate (CCyR) to 2.00%, delivering the second 25bp cut this year, and said that it is ready to "lower [it] gradually further". ING wrote that "the question is whether or not the bank board will want to loosen conditions more today" adding that "we might even get an update on monetary policy".
  • The Chamber of Deputies resumes the debate on 2024 state budget. Lawmakers proposed more than 100 amendments, most of them tabled by the opposition, but the basic parameters of the bill can no longer be changed. The lower house is expected to approve the spending plan, which assumes a fiscal deficit of CZK252bn.
  • Parliament yesterday decided that Ukrainian troops will continue to train in the Czech Republic next year. The decision was backed by 129 of the 150 present lawmakers, with the main opposition ANO party voting in favour.
