Coalition Partners Trade Barbs, Retail Sales & Construction Output On Tap

  • Government spokesman Piotr Muller admitted that there is a "disagreement," which in some areas is "fundamental," between Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who doubles as leader of junior coalition partner Sovereign Poland (known as Solidarity Poland until recently). The two had publicly traded barbs over Poland's agreement to EU environmental package "Fit For 55." Muller added that the ruling Law and Justice party intends to contest the upcoming election together with its coalition partner, but a party which has 0.7%-1.0% of support should not make serious demands when it comes to the allocation of seats. Gazeta Wyborcza reported that Sovereign Poland warned that they could vote against a key bill lowering the quorum in the Constitutional Tribunal if they don't get 40 safe seats in the election.
  • Poland's retail sales and construction output for April will cross the wires at 09:00BST/10:00CEST. Retail sales are expected to have increased by 2.5% Y/Y, according to a Bloomberg poll of economists.
