Commissioning of the planned LNG terminal on the island of Ruegen could be delayed after RWE informed the German Economy Ministry it plans to withdraw from the project according to The Spiegel.

  • The terminal was planned to come online this winter.
  • RWE does not want to engage in LNG infrastructure long-term as has made this view known to the German government, the firm told the newspaper.
  • Works at the new floating LNG terminal were expected to start as early as 15 May. The firm was planning to install a floating terminal off the island of Ruegen and a 38km pipeline, running parallel to the idled Nord Stream 2 pipeline according to the state’s Economy Minister Reinhard Meyer.
