Slovenia Bill for Energy Supply Emergency

ENERGY SECURITY

The Slovenian Infrastructure Ministry has drawn up a draft bill to allow the government to declare a state of emergency in case of disruption in electricity or gas supplies

  • The aim would be to shield consumers from costs while guaranteeing energy supplies according to the Infrastructure Ministry.
  • The draft law could provide measures such as regulating prices of electricity from state-owned companies, consumption cuts and state guarantees to buy gas outside the EU, while also allowing power producers to temporary exceed emissions limits.
  • The draft would also allow for the release fossil fuels from its reserves in a state of emergency.
  • The bill will be subject to a period of public debate until Sep 26 before going to parliament for approval.
