Communities, MMG, Government To Hold Final Talk July 21

  • Peru Foreign Trade Minister Roberto Sanchez asked MMG’s Las Bambas copper mine to be flexible in final talks with six communities to reach lasting agreements. (BBG)
    • Peru communities, Las Bambas and government officials will hold a final meeting July 21 in an attempt to reach an agreement after one month of dialogue and truce, Sanchez said to Exitosa TV.
  • Separately, Peru truckers are holding a nationwide strike to protest high fuel prices, Javier Corrales, leader of the Heavy Freight Carriers Association, said to Exitosa TV.
    • Corrales said that govt measures, including one to refund 70% of the selective consumption tax to truckers, only benefit large companies.
    • Truckers have lost jobs due to monopolies and oligopolies, Corrales added.
