Congress Committee to See Castillo Complaint Friday

  • Peru’s congressional constitutional accusations committee will see the prosecutor’s complaint against President Pedro Castillo on Friday, Lady Camones, the committee’s head said to journalists (BBG).
  • This follows reports of Peru’s top prosecutor filing a complaint in congress against President Castillo for alleged corruption offenses, potentially boosting the campaign of opposition lawmakers seeking to remove him from office.
  • Camones said that the committee will have 10 working days to decide whether the complaint can move forward. It would then move to the permanent committee, where lawmakers would vote if it would proceed or not.
