Construction of Mongolian Section of Power of Siberia-2 Could Begin in Q1-24

Construction of the Soyuz-Vostok pipeline - the Mongolian portion of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline - could begin in Q1 2024, Russian Deputy PM Victoria Abramchenko told TASS.

  • Approval of the design for that section is expected in Q1 2024, with construction to begin immediately after.
  • The Soyuz Vostok pipeline is an extension of the Russian Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline which would supply up to 50 bcm/y to China via Mongolia. The Mongolian section will be around 960km.
  • Russia currently exports gas to China through the Power of Siberia 1 pipeline; it is aiming to raise supplies to 38 bcm/y through it by 2025.
