Consumer Confidence at Record Low in June

TURKEY
MNI (London)

TURKEY JUNE CONSUMER CONFIDENCE 63.4; May 67.6

  • Consumer sentiment dipped 4.2 points in June to 63.4, falling further into pessimistic territory below the breakeven mark of 100. This was a 6.2% m/m slide, following a modest 0.4% m/m improvement seen in May. The June reading beat the record low seen in April.
  • Turkish households saw substantial declines in12-month expectations of their financial situations and the general economic situation, alongside a further decline in assessments of their current financial situation.
  • The stark depreciation of the lira, soaring inflation of 73.5%, concerns regarding surging commodity prices and escalations in the Ukraine war make for a bleak outlook for Turkish consumer confidence.
