Consumer Confidence Edges Up in Nov

TURKEY
MNI (London)

TURKEY NOV CONSUMER CONFIDENCE 76.6; OCT 76.2

  • Turkish consumer confidence recorded a fifth consecutive month of improvement in November, up 0.4 points at 76.6, yet remaining deeply pessimistic under the 100 threshold.
  • Confidence levels are currently broadly in line with Q3 2021 levels, shortly before the Q4 2021 dive in the lira.
  • Sentiment has largely improved on the back of 12-month economic expectations, whilst personal finance outlooks and spending expectations suffered further in November as inflation continues to soar. The latest October data recorded +85.5% y/y.
  • The CBRT is largely anticipated to deliver another 150bp cut to the one-week repo rate on Thursday, in line with calls from President Erdogan for single-digit rates. This unorthodox approach implies little relief for headline CPI, which will continue to weigh on sentiment.
