Consumer Discretionary, Real Estate and Financials Are The 'Cheapest' Sectors

EMERGING MARKETS
  • In this chart, we compute the z-score of P/B ratios of the 11 EM sectors using 5.5 years of data (starting January 2016) and then rank them from 'cheapest' to 'most expensive' based on the distance between the minimum value and the current z-score.
  • Health care and Industrials are the most expensive sectors, with the price-to-book ratios trading at historical highs.
  • On the other hand, consumer discretionary, real estate and financials are the cheapest sectors based on our analysis.
  • It is interesting to see that the energy sector, which is considered 'very cheap' based on current P/B and PE ratios, tend to become more 'expensive' if we look at the current z-score using 5.5 years of data.
