Cooling Across Pandemic-Reopening Categories

US DATA

The pandemic-reopening categories had some volatility once again: airfares cooled a little, lodging had the biggest decline since April 2020, used cars fell back to a 4-month low and new cars saw prices contract for the first time since March 2021.

  • Meanwhile, car/truck rental prices collapsed 7% M/M, worst performance since April 2020.
  • This makes the overall upside beat even more impressive given that some of these categories were seen as a factor boosting price pressures. But you'd have to look elsewhere.
