EGB SUMMARY: Core EGBs are slightly weaker, with periphery bonds strengthening.
- The Bund curve is weaker, with 5-Yrs the weakest segment as yields up 0.9bps
at -0.217%; 2-Yr and 10-Yr yields up 0.4bps each.
- Periphery spreads are tighter to Bunds: Italian BTPs in 3.5bps at 166.5bps,
Spanish Bonos in 2.0bps at 101.8bps, and Portugal PGBs in 1.3bps at 143.9bps.
- PMIs came out slightly mixed this morning, with the composite numbers for
Germany, France and Eurozone coming in around or above expectations. However,
survey compiler IHS Markit cautioned the August data were based on a much
smaller sample size.
- Fairly subdued reaction to Bundesbank/ECB's Weidmann comments this morning
that it is time to exit very expansionary monetary policy.
- ECB minutes from the July meeting coming out at 1130GMT, with EMU consumer
confidence data out at 1400GMT. Otherwise focus firmly on US data (beginning
with jobless claims) and the beginning of the Jackson Hole symposium tonight.
