Covid Probe: Former Health Minister Sets Anti Bolsonaro/Guedes Tone

    • Later Lira commented that the decision was technical and that he aims to approve tax reform as fast as possible.
  • Brazilian lawmakers began an investigation into President Jair Bolsonaro's handling of the COVID-19 health crisis narrowing in on his support of the anti-malaria drug, chloroquine.
  • Additionally, Brazil's former health minister Mandetta calls Guedes dishonest, according to BBG:
    • Guedes did not speak the truth in public hearings to which he was summoned by Congress, the former minister added.
    • According to him, Guedes was one of the voices that influenced President Jair Bolsonaro to focus on the economy instead of curbing the virus spread.
    • Mandetta, in turn, praised the behaviour of Brazil's central bank president, Roberto Campos Neto.
