MNI BRIEF: Investors Saw BOC Cutting to 3% By Q3 2025

(MNI) OTTAWA

MNI (OTTAWA) - Investors saw the Bank of Canada lowering the policy interest rate to 3% by the third quarter of next year, according to a survey the central bank released Friday that was taken following June's quarter-point cut to 4.75% and ahead of a similar move in July.

The survey median correctly predicted the July reduction to 4.5% and predicted a pause in September before two more quarter-point cuts in October and December. The survey of about 30 major investors was taken June 19 to 28. Investors also saw a 30% chance of a recession over the next year, and said inflation would be 2.3% at the end of this year.
