UK DATA: CPI Rises Above Target, Lifted By Air Fares, Electricity Prices
-UK April CPI +2.1% y/y vs +1.9% in Mar
-UK April Core CPI +1.8% y/y vs +1.8% in Mar
-UK April RPI +3.0% y/y vs +2.4% y/y in Mar, highest since Nov 2018

Inflation edged above the Bank of England's 2.0% target in April, 
matching the 2.1% outturn recorded in December, although falling short 
of 2.2% predicted by analysts surveyed by MNI as well as Bank of England 
staff. Rising airfares over the Easter holiday added 0.14 percentage 
points to the annual change in CPI, while an increase in energy prices 
in line with Ofgem regulations added another 0.28 percentage points to 
the increase in inflation. The recent rise in crude oil prices could 
continue to lift consumer prices in months to come. Core inflation 
steadied at an annual rate of 1.8%.
