Crimea Platform Summit: US Energy Sec. Says Washington to "Put Russia in its Place"

  • US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, speaking about the end of the conflict in Donbass and the "return" of Crimea under the control of the Ukrainian authorities at the Crimean Platform Summit today, declared Washington 's desire to "put Russia in its place."
  • The Crimean Platform summit, initiated by Ukraine, is being held in Kiev on 23 August. It discusses the issue of "returning" control over Crimea. More than 40 countries and international organizations are taking part in the summit.
  • Our support [to Ukraine] will remain concrete and substantial. We have already provided $ 4.9bn in assistance in 2014 alone, and this support will continue in the future ... We will continue diplomatic efforts, which we are jointly taking with our allies and partners to resolve conflict in eastern Ukraine.
  • We want to put Russia in its place, and we want to achieve an end to the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea"
