Czech Chamber of Deputies Speaker Marketa Pekarova Adamova confirmed her plan to make a trip to Taiwan next month.
- This comes after her announcement last month that she would lead a delegation of Czech businesspeople to the self-governed island in order to bolster Czechia's partnership with Taiwan.
- "Supporting partners who respect human rights and respect democracy is important, and I am very happy that all constitutional officials will be united in this," Adamova wrote on her Twitter account.
- This will not be Adamova's first official trip to Taiwan. Last summer, she visited the island together with Senate President Milos Vystrcil and Prague Mayor Mayor Zdenek Hrib.
- The move will likely weigh on Czechia's relations with mainland China, after they have already come under pressure as President-elect Petr Pavel held a phone call with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen.
