CZECHIA: Pavel Meets With Coalition Leaders To Discuss Recent Tensions

  • President Petr Pavel has invited leaders of the ruling coalition to discuss recent tensions surrounding the ouster of Regional Development Minister Ivan Bartos and the imminent exit of the Pirate Party from the government. Bartos reaffirmed his party's intention to leave the coalition in an interview on Sunday, suggesting that it will be finalised after a meeting of its parliamentary caucus on Tuesday. According to Bartos, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky and Legislation Minister Michal Salomoun will also hand in their resignations on that day. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that he would provide an update on the coalition make-up on Wednesday.
  • Ex-PM Andrej Babis's ANO party claimed eight out of 27 senate seats up for grabs in the recent elections, following the run-offs held over the weekend. This was ANO's first-ever victory in upper house elections, even as parties forming the governing coalition together won 15 seats.
  • The Czech National Bank (CNB) will release money supply data at 09:00BST/10:00CEST.
