Deadline for Independent Panel Looking into Phala Phala Scandal Knocked Back

  • The National Assembly Speaker has extended the deadline by which the panel of independent experts will submit their report findings to the 30th November, from 17th November previously, according to reports.
  • Reports see the extension following a letter by the panel chair, retired chief justice Ngcobo, who requested the extension due to the amount of work still to be done. A full statement is to follow.
  • The independent panel are looking into the Phala Phala Scandal as part of the Section 89 impeachment process. The panel will make a recommendation to the National Assembly as to whether a formal inquiry should be triggered, the start of a longer process toward a potential impeachment vote.
