Death Toll Rises To Four Amid Historic Flooding

  • At least four people have now died and around 42,000 people remain isolated as a weather front caused historic flooding in the central Chile region. Around 26,000 people have been cut off from basic services, according to Chilean disaster agency Senapred, and 38,000 are without electricity.
  • Separately, The Ministry of Agriculture reported that Chile is now free of the bird flu virus in poultry. The announcement allows Chile to reopen export markets including China, Colombia, South Korea and Peru, said Jose Guajardo Reyes, head of the agriculture and cattle service.
