December most likely month for snap general......>

UK
UK: December most likely month for snap general election following gov't defeat
and prorogation of parliament in early hours of this morning.
- Parliament does not reconvene until Oct 14, when the gov't will present its
Queen's speech (QS).
- Opposition has said it won't vote for early election until gov't requests Art.
50 extension. According to European Union (Withdrawal)(No. 6) Act, PM must ask
for extension by Saturday 19 Oct if a deal hasn't been agreed with EU (Euro
Council summit 17-18 Oct).
- Votes on QS then to take place on 21 Oct (gov't set for defeat). This makes 22
Oct the most likely day for Opp. to call a confidence vote (VoNC).
- Following successful VoNC, there is a 14 calendar day period in which new
gov't can attempt to form. This takes us to 5 Nov. If no majority gov't formed
by then, parliament is dissolved and election held 25 working days later. This
would be Tuesday 10 December.
