December YTD Budget Deficit Widens, 2024 Debt Financing Need 6.1%/GDP

Czech Republic's year-to-date budget deficit widened to CZK288.5b in December from -CZK269.1b in November, according to the Ministry of Finance Czech Republic. Comments from the Finance Minister on fiscal matters have since been crossing wires (via Reuters News):

  • We will review whether to keep or end windfall tax in spring.
  • State debt at end-2023 at 42.3%/GDP vs 42.7%/GDP in 2022.
  • 2024 debt financing need CZK 468.8 bln or 6.1%/GDP.
  • Expect overall 2023 fiscal deficit not worse than latest estimate of 3.6%/GDP.
