Defense Min Akar Says US-Turkey F-35 Talks to Start "In the Coming Days"

  • Defense Min Akar says on Saturday that US & Turkey will hold talks on F-35s “in the coming days” and that preparations are underway. He also added that Turkey’s S-400 purchase was “a necessity,” not a choice and that a logical solution could be found on the matter
  • Erdogan accuses main opposition (CHP) of attacking Islam and terror links, adding that the Turkish nation would hold them accountable in the 2023 elections. Erdogan urged citizens to ignore the CHP’s remarks
  • Turkey urges Greece not to extend its territorial waters 12 miles in the Aegean, reiterating the need to solve bilateral issues with dialogue.
    • Defence Min Akar said this would be a mistake and an incorrect calculation. In 1995 Turkish parliament declared this would constitute reasons to go to war.
    • Akar said “they should not test us” noting that Turkey would have no room to sail towards international waters without asking Greece’s consent
  • Opposition DEVA party leader says Govt does not have a “New Economic Model” in response to the economic crisis and is just employing stalling tactics to run its trial and error-based policy
