POWER: Denmark Halts Offshore Wind Tenders, Considers Subsidies

POWER

Denmark announced to halt all ongoing offshore wind tenders after the unsuccessful last tender round, and plans to introduce subsidies for future tender rounds, the energy minister Lars Aagaard said, cited by Reuters.

  • Following the halt, the government will start preparations to launch a new offshore wind tender this year for 2-3GW of capacity, in which the state plans to introduce subsidies, Aagaard added.
  • The Danish Energy Agency said in December it has not received any bids for the three offshore wind farms (North Sea I A1, A2 and A3) with a combined capacity of 3GW in the latest offshore wind tender.
  • The tender was for the first 3GW of a total of 6GW of planned offshore wind in the North Sea I sub-area.
