OIL PRODUCTS
Mexico’s new 340k b/d Olmeca refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, will begin diesel production in May, according to a Q1 earning’s call from Pemex.
- Pemex was planning to cut at least 330k b/d of crude exports in May at it diverts supplies to domestic refineries but reversed this decision amid smaller-than-expected oil demand.
- The Dos Bocas refinery alone is expected to need an average of around 179k b/d of crude in 2024.
- The refinery is running behind schedule and over budget, according to Reuters.
- The Mexican government’s intention is to become self-reliant for gasoline production, keeping its heavy crude for domestic production.
- Currently, Mexico is reliant on the USGC for much of its gasoline supplies, and exports crude to refineries in the USA.
