Diplomat Expelled From Embassy In Moscow In Tit-For-Tat Move

The Italian gov't has called the expulsion of its Deputy Defense Attache from the Italian Embassy in Moscow an 'unfounded and unjust' act by the Russian gov't.

  • An earlier statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the diplomat had been declared a persona non grata and would have 24 hours to leave Russia.
  • The move comes a month after the Italian gov't summoned the Russian ambassador and expelled two Russian diplomats for their involvement in an affair involving the purchase of secret documents from an Italian naval captain.
