GILT SUMMARY
GILT SUMMARY: Discussion over whether the government is in contempt of
Parliament over publishing limited Brexit legal advice sets the stage for 5 days
of Commons debate on the Brexit withdrawal agreement, beginning today.
- The 10-Yr Mar-19 Gilt future is trading at 123.08, up 11 ticks on the day but
off day`s high of 123.31.
- The short end of the curve has underperformed, with 2-Yr Gilt yield is down
0.4bps at 0.727% - whilst shorter maturities have seen rising yields.
- Further along the curve yields have fallen, 10-Yr yield down 1.4bps at 1.299%,
30-Yr down 4.5bps at 1.966%.
- Parliament sits at 10:30GMT today with the first item of business whether the
Brexit legal advice should be investigated as the government being in contempt.
- EU court aide suggested earlier Britain could withdraw from Article 50
unilaterally. How this changes the parliamentary calculus on voting for PM May`s
withdrawal deal remains to be seen, but probably does not help.
- BOE`s Carney, Broadbent, Cunliffe etc currently before Treasury select
committee discussing Brexit scenarios, few real surprises so far.
