FOREX: Dollar horizontal pre-payrolls
-After a volatile week, Friday morning's been quieter, with the USD index
trading flat headed into the jobs data. After the mixed US numbers this week
(ISM manufacturing poor, non-manufacturing strong) today's data will likely come
under particular scrutiny. The whisper number sits a touch above consensus at
165k.
-GBP is edging off the week's best levels on little fresh newsflow, with
profit-taking the theme as GBP/USD nudges back below the 50-dma and the $1.23
handle. It increasingly looks unlikely the UK PM will be able to secure a
pre-Brexit General Election, with senior opposition ministers this morning
stressing that an extension to Article 50 is required before any agreement on a
fresh vote. Havens are again on the backfoot, with JPY and CHF weak as equities
charge higher. US markets finished well yesterday and futures indicate further
strength.
-Canadian and US jobs reports are the focus, with Fed's Powell also on the
docket at 1730BST/1230ET in the final speech ahead of the blackout.
