Doubling Azerbaijan's TAP Gas Capacity Decision Set for Early Next Year

A final decision to double capacity of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will be made early next year according to TAP’s Managing Director. The additional gas will come from several Azeri fields.

  • The pipeline is part of the Southern Gas Corridor transporting gas to Europe from Azerbaijan. Europe has signed an MOU with Azerbaijan to double imports of Azeri gas to 20 billion cubic metres a year by 2027.
  • "If there is enough demand for capacity we will start the expansion, which can happen in steps," TAP's Luca Schieppati said, adding "After 36 months we can deliver the first additional capacity and after up to 60 months we can deliver the doubling of the capacity".
