DPRK Test-Fires Ballistic Missiles

NORTH KOREA

North Korea fired unspecified ballistic missiles towards the East Sea, South Korea and Japan confirmed in separate statements.

  • The DPRK fired three ballistic missiles from Sunan area in Pyongyang, according to the most recent update from Yonhap news agency, who are citing South Korea's military.
  • The drills come the day after U.S. President Joe Biden concluded his visit to South Korea. Biden's talks with his South Korean counterpart Yoon resulted in a decision to consider expanded joint military exercises.
  • Japan's state broadcaster NHK reported that the first missile landed outside of Japan's exclusive economic zone, while PM Kishida said officials are gathering information about the rockets.
  • This is the 17th round of North Korea's missile tests this year. U.S. and South Korean intelligence officials warned that Pyongyang may soon conduct a nuclear test.
