Duda Attends NATO Summit, Glapinski To Speak In Parliament

  • President Andrzej Duda said that he will convene a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) upon his return from the ongoing NATO summit in Vilnius. The NCS includes leaders of all political parties which have formed clubs (at least 15MPs) or groups (at least 3 MPs) in parliament. The President said that he will brief members of the Council on the main takeaways from the NATO summit, including informal negotiations on the sidelines of the conference.
  • Almost half of economists polled by Rzeczpospolita said that next year's ~20% minimum wage hike will have a negative impact on employment. The newspaper speculates that this effect could be partly offset by labour shortages, with businesses expected to pass on rising labour costs onto the consumers.
  • Government spokesman Piotr Muller said that Poland will decide whether to extend the so-called mortgage payment holidays in early autumn. According to the official, "everything will depend on the situation in the interest rate market."
  • Parliament will debate the report on the National Bank of Poland's activities in 2022 in late afternoon/evening hours today. Governor Adam Glapinski is expected to testify to lawmakers.
