Duda Says Election Could Take Place In October, Flash CPI On Radar

POLAND
  • President Andrzej Duda told Radio Zet that there is "high probability" that the upcoming parliamentary election will take place in October. It has long been speculated that the election could be called for October 15 to coincide with a religious festival, which could help the incumbents mobilise their conservative electoral base. Duda added that he sees no reason to announce a state of emergency related to the relocation of Wagner Group militants to the neighbouring Belarus, pushing back against accusations that such a measure could be used to postpone the election.
  • Rzeczpospolita reports that Poland continues to struggle with a "huge" surplus of grains, with stocks estimated at 6-9.6mn tons. Upon taking office in April, Agriculture Minister Robert Telus pledged to resign if he fails to deal with the issue of a grain supply glut.
  • Poland's CPI inflation may have eased to +11.8% Y/Y in June from +13.0% prior, flash data is expected to show today. The data will be published at 09:00BST/10:00CEST, ahead of next week's NBP monetary policy meeting.
