Dutch HICP Accelerates to 3.47% Y/Y, Driven By Services

EUROPEAN INFLATION

Dutch flash HICP inflation rose to +3.47%Y/Y in July, up from +3.36% in June, and firmer than the +3.3% expected (although consensus only consisted of 4 submissions). This equates to a +1.26% sequential increase (+0.17% June). Core HICP inflation accelerated to 3.41% from 3.14% in June - driven by accelerating services inflation.

  • Specifically, on services, the Y/Y print increased for the third consecutive time, to +5.76% from +5.43% in June.
  • Non-energy industrial goods meanwhile continued printing in deflationary territory, coming in at -0.69% Y/Y (vs -0.48% June).
  • Inflation in the food, alcohol and tobacco category increased to +5.34% Y/Y (vs +4.34% June).
  • Energy printed almost flat on the yearly comparison, at +0.06% Y/Y (vs +3.44% prior).
  • The national CPI meanwhile rose to 3.7% Y/Y (vs 3.2% May).
  • For reference, Netherlands represents 5.7% of the overall 2024 Eurozone HICP basket.
