DOLLAR: DXY has shed 5 pips and last sits at 96.36, off of session lows at
96.32. WTI trades ~$0.30 lower, while gold is barely changed on the day.
- Fed Vice Chair Clarida spoke today, but offered little new, as he once again
stressed the need for patience as the economy is in "a good spot", and pointed
to policy space to deal with any potential economic shocks, while reiterating
that he Fed has made no final decision on its balance sheet as of yet.
- The dollar index dropped 9 pips on a very data-light Monday, with news flow
dominated by Sino-U.S. trade relations.
- Bears look for a breach of the 50-DMA at 96.28, which would bring the
psychological 96.00 level into play. Conversely, bulls look to the
21-DMA/100-DMA at 96.40/43, ahead of 96.60, where the index peaked yesterday.
- U.S. focus today turns to domestic consumer confidence, housing starts &
building permits, as well as Fed Chair Powell's semi-annual testimony to the
Congress.
