DOLLAR
DOLLAR: DXY last sits at 96.70, virtually unch. on the day, after falling 35
pips yesterday. WTI has added ~$0.50 so far, while gold trades flat at writing.
- Yesterday saw increased optimism re: averting another gov't shutdown in the
U.S. & the Sino-U.S. trade talks (with ministerial level talks scheduled for
Thursday & Friday).
- Fed's Mester & George spoke today, but added little new re: their respective
outlooks for MonPol.
- On a technical note, DXY bears look for a fall through yesterday's low of
96.65, which would draw their attention to the 50-DMA/100-DMA at 96.36/32.
Conversely, bullish spotlight falls on 97.20, where the index peaked yesterday,
followed by the upper 1.0% 10-DMA envelope at 96.27.
- U.S. focus today turns to domestic CPI (for 5 themes to look for in the
release, see MNI Main Wire at 19:15 GMT 02/12) & the Monthly Budget Statement.
Elsewhere, Fed's Mester, Bostic & Harker are set to speak.
