Early Signs of “Supercharged” Atlantic Hurricane Season: AccuWeather

The US could face an “explosive” hurricane season this year with as many as 25 named storms from June through November compared to a typical year with 14 storms, according to AccuWeather Inc

  • Early warning signs are pointing to a “supercharged” season with the forecast of up to a dozen hurricanes, and as many as six storms reaching the US.
  • There’s a 10% to 15% chance of 30 or more named storms this year which would break the record set in 2020.
  • Heat in the water across a key part of the Atlantic which fuels tropical storms is “off the chart,” said Jon Porter at AccuWeather. Ocean temperatures in March were close to 2005 levels which was followed by 28 named storms.
  • An active season could threaten US and Mexico refinery output as well as oil and gas production with many facilities based on the coast in the Gulf of Mexico.
