EC Approves 4.59GW Italian Renewables Scheme

POWER

The European Commission has approved an Italian subsidy scheme that will support a total of 4.59GW of new renewable capacity, with the measure implemented until 31 December 2028, the EC said today.

  • The deadline set for the successful units that enter into the scheme to be commissioned varies between 31-60 months, according to the EC.
  • The aid will be given under a two-way contract for difference (CfD) for each kWh of electricity produced and fed into the grid and will be paid for a duration equal to the useful life of the plants.
  • The project will be selected through a bidding process.
  • The scheme will support the building of new offshore wind, solar, geothermal, biogas and biomass power plants.
