Econ Ministry Considering Transforming NSII Into LNG Terminal Connector

Der Spiegel reporting that the German Economy Ministry has stated that it is considering plans to convert the Nord Stream II gas pipeline into a connection for an LNG terminal in the Baltic Sea.

  • Reports that the ministry is considering nationalising those parts of the pipeline on German territory and cutting it off from the remainder of the pipeline.
  • Should this plan come to fruition it is likely to be met with a significant backlash from Moscow, given that one of the major firms invested in the construction of Nord Stream II was Russian gas giant Gazprom.
