EdF Extends Two Nuclear Outages, Lags 45GW Target

EdF extended the restart of two nuclear reactors as repairs are taking longer than expected, setting back the country’s recovery of nuclear availability, EdF remit data show.

  • EdF delayed the restart of the 1.5GW Chooz 1 reactor by one month to 28 Feb.
  • EdF delayed the restart of the 910MW Blayais 1 reactor by ten days to 11 Feb.
  • Reactor availability stood at 73%, or 43.19GW, on 13 Jan, down from 44.2GW earlier this week, RTE data show.
  • France has set a nuclear output target of 45GW for January to meet demand during peak season.
  • Power consumption is forecast to peak at 75.1GW during the next seven days, RTE data show.
  • French gas reserves stood at 80.89% of capacity on 11 Jan, Agsi data show.
