EdF Lower Nuclear Output This Weekend on Renewables, Demand

Nuclear output in France has been reduced for this weekend amid forecasts for high wind output and low demand.

  • Power demand on Saturday is forecast at a maximum of 45.18GW and at a maximum of 43.42GW on Sunday.
  • French wind output is expected to climb to about 10.72GW on 15 June, or a 54% load factor – adding additional downward pressure – before falling to a 35% load factor, or 6.93GW the next day. French solar generation over 15-16 June is anticipated between 3.4-3.7GW, or 18-20% load factors – unchanged on the day – but slightly higher than a 17% load factor anticipated on Friday, 14 June.
  • EdF’s 915MW Tricastin 1 and 1.31GW Golfech 2 nuclear reactors will be offline 14-17 June. The 915MW Cruas 2 reactor will be offline 13-17 June, remit data showed on Thursday.
  • Nuclear fleet availability stood at 69% of capacity as of Thursday morning, RTE data showed.
  • The French day-ahead base load on the Epex Spot cleared at €16.41/MWh for Friday delivery. The peak-load equivalent fell to €12.92/MWh, with prices at zero during several peak load hours. Prices are likely to fall below zero during the weekend.
