EdF Workers Strike Fails to Significantly Curtail Power Capacity

Workers at France’s EdF have started a 24-hour industrial action on Monday 21:00 CET, but so far strikes have failed to significantly weigh on the country’s production capacity, EdF remit data showed.

  • EdF’s hydropower production capacity has been reduced by 80MW.
  • Since Christmas, workers at EdF’s 915MW Cruas 2 nuclear plant have been walking off daily in order to delay the restart of one of the reactors. On 16 January, workers at the 910MW Bugey 5 rector joined the movement according to Revolution Permanente and EdF remit data.
  • French power demand is forecast to peak at 65.2GW on 29 Jan and at 65GW on 30 Jan, RTE data showed last week. Demand peaked at 63.855GW this morning, RTE data showed.
