EGBs-GILTS: Choppy Start With Supply, Lagarde Awaited

BOND SUMMARY

A choppy start for core FI in early European trade following a fairly lacklustre Asia-Pac session, with Bunds and Gilts off slightly but rising from lows as equities dip. Periphery spreads a little tighter.

  • Aug German factory orders at 0700BST (a solid beat, plus revisions) was the only European data release of note today. ECB's Lagarde speaks at 0935BST, and again at 1400BST; we also get de Cos at 1000BST and Lane at 1630BST.
  • Decent supply this morning: UK sells GBP5.25B in Gilts, Austria E1.5B, Germany E0.75B (linkers). Also EFSF dual-tranche transaction of E3B in new Oct-27 bond and E1B in Jan-50 tap.
