Egypt Imports LNG Cargo from Jordan

LNG

Egypt imported an LNG cargo over the weekend via Jordan which then go back through the pipes according to ICIS. The country has gone back and forth as an exporter to an importer over the last decade (see chart)

  • Around 2015-2019 Egypt imported substantial volumes of LNG as its domestic gas balance changed, with home production unable to support domestic demand and exports.
  • Improved production from facilities including ENI's Zohr field boosted gas output in recent years, allowing a halt in imports and an increase in exports.
  • Egypt is however now reported to be looking to buy several cargoes over the peak summer demand season, raising questions as to whether the balance has shifted once more.
