Egypt Set to Load Second LNG Cargo Since July

The Dapeng Princess LNG tanker arrived at Egypt’s Idku LNG plant Oct. 10, indicating that exports from Egypt are starting to resume, according to Bloomberg

  • The vessel has a capacity of 78.4 cubic metres, smaller than typical LNG carriers, Bloomberg said.
  • Last week, SK Resolute loaded a cargo from Idku, the first shipment since July.
  • However, the halt to the production at Israel’s Tamar gas field and the redirection of gas flows from Israel’s Leviathan field to Jordan could impact supplies into the country, and thus exports.
  • Chevron has halted gas exports via the offshore EMG pipeline into Egypt and is using an alternative pipeline via Jordan to move supplies from the Leviathan field.
  • There had been a 20% drop in gas flows into Egypt, officials said Oct. 10. Israel is currently prioritising domestic consumption.
