Egyptian Delegation En Route To Israel As Gaza Ceasefire Talks Stall

ISRAEL

Israel's public broadcaster Kan reports that an Egyptian delegation is on its way to Israel as part of efforts to mediate a ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian paramilitaries in Gaza. Kan reporter Gili Cohen tweets that a political source told her that talks stalled as Israel has not not agreed to stop its policy of targeted assassinations of Palestinian Islamic Jihad leaders or to return the body of PIJ's Khader Adnan who died in Israeli custody while on hunger strike.

  • This comes after both sides of the conflict denied yesterday's reports suggesting that they agreed to a ceasefire, while the exchange of fire extended into Thursday morning and continues to rage on.
  • Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant ordered the IDF to prepare for intensified missile attacks from Gaza and "instructed all the security forces to take all the necessary measures to prepare a series of additional operations."
  • Foreign Ministers of Germany, France, Egypt and Jordan met in Berlin to discuss the situation in the Middle East. They issued a joint statement calling on Israel and the Islamic Jihad to "stop the bloodshed" and work towards a truce.
